Who We Are
CA values - Creativity. Character. Confidence.
At Chesapeake Academy educating young learners is our specialty. We offer students in preschool through fifth grade an invigorating education that celebrates intellect and imagination and focuses on creativity, character and confidence.

Our families value education. In our small classes big learning takes place. Our confident students graduate well prepared for their next educational experience. They advance to top independent and public middle schools and, beyond that, to highly rated high schools and colleges.

We spark curiosity and encourage a journey of intellectual discovery. All of our resources are devoted to young learners and our small classes ensure individual attention. The challenging curriculum emphasizes reading as well as written and oral communication. Math, social studies and science are complemented by Spanish, arts, computer skills and physical education.

We foster creativity and understand the value of imagination. Here creative endeavors add joy to children’s lives, enhance the study of academic disciplines, and stimulate the imagination. Our arts programs begin in preschool and culminate in fourth and fifth grades, when students study chorus, drama, advanced art, strings or photography and present a fully integrated theater production and art exhibit twice a year.

We build character in a climate of respect and kindness. Our confident young learners take risks, benefit from their mistakes and rejoice in their accomplishments. At Chesapeake Academy students appreciate cultural and personal differences. In an increasingly interactive world they prepare to contribute their talents as involved global citizens.
CA testimonials

Having visited most of the private schools in the area, we chose Chesapeake Academy nearly 7 years ago and have been repeatedly pleased with our decision. They have the smallest class sizes with personalized instruction, an atmosphere that instills great character, and an impressive and ever-advancing curriculum. My children have truly blossomed as individuals with confidence and ability to speak effectively and with authority in any setting --something that I couldn't have imagined given how shy they were before. Plus my Chesapeake Academy graduate is among the brightest and best prepared as evidenced from his middle school experience.”

“My grandchildren attended Chesapeake Academy. Their experience was extremely positive. They came away with a love of learning, solid academic skills, an appreciation of the arts, and a strong sense of respect for themselves and others. They continued in independent schools, and were extremely well-prepared.

I loved going to Chesapeake Academy.  I went to Chesapeake Academy for 8 years and I was so sad when I graduated. I watched the school grow. When I came there wasn't even a gym! Now the school has sick rooms, a gym, an auditorium, and a fun playground! The teachers taught me so much! It's not too strict or easy and they try hard to put people in the level they should be in. I made tons of friends there and hope to teach there when I'm old enough. The older kids interacted with the younger ones constantly and there are a lot of parents around the school being involved in as much as possible. There's drama, yearbook, video production, and advanced art available to 4th and 5th graders. I've learned everything needed at CA. I also made friends with not only students, but teachers too. Chesapeake Academy is the best.”

“Our children and our family love Chesapeake Academy. The staff is committed to providing the best academic and social environment to support them in reaching their fullest potential. Our children love coming to school every day and are engaged in learning throughout the school day. We appreciate the time, care and attention that the school provides to make this happen.

“Chesapeake Academy is a great school with a small community feel and top-quality teachers. We sent our daughter there for 3 years (2-5th grade). The school's wide range of social cultural experiences, extracurricular activities and (very) challenging academics prepared her well for her current success at one of the area’s best (and selective) middle/high schools (Severn). CA continues to draw applicants despite the overall down economy mainly because of its small class sizes, close community feel and individual attention to student learning. They are one of the very few independent schools in the area with a full-range learning services department and counselor.

Our daughter graduated from CA as a confident student and was accepted to one of the most well-respected 6-12 independent schools in the state. Students run through the doors of CA smiling with excitement to learn because they feel teachers and staff truly care about their well-being! Teachers at CA are of the highest quality and love to teach!

“Chesapeake Academy has provided a top-notch education to our children for over 10 years. The changes made to the school since the new head of School has arrived have been simply amazing - he has expanded the learning opportunities for both children and educators. He has had to make some difficult decisions due to the recent down-turn in the economy, but never at the risk of lowering the educational standards for our children. In fact, he has maintained high standards of admission, while improving the Math and Language Arts curriculums.”

My two daughters had wonderful experiences while attending Chesapeake Academy. The program was rigorous; yet fully supported and individualized for students with different learning styles. The teachers and staff were superior. My daughters' educational and social foundation at CA was instrumental in their success in later grades.

“My three children currently attend Chesapeake Academy and we have been thrilled with this school. The talented teaching staff and small class sizes ensure that each child is nurtured as an individual. The school employs a highly experienced faculty who are specialists in early childhood and elementary education. Children are given individualized attention at every grade level, so that each child s talents and challenges are identified. Parents and teachers are mutually supportive of each other in the determining the learning path that is right for each child.”

“Education is one of the greatest gifts you can give your child. We found this gift in Chesapeake Academy. Our two children are thriving in this school, because they are getting the love and attention that they need and desire. This is our fifth year at Chesapeake Academy, and I remember getting my son's very first report card in preschool. Not only was this report 3+ pages long, but it encompassed every aspect of my son's learning abilities. It demonstrated his citizenship, independence, time management skills, and communication skills. I remember thinking...these teachers really know my son.  Here's a school that takes the time to get to know your child and helps him/her achieve academic excellence.  For us, Chesapeake Academy means SUCCESS - superior teaching staff, unwavering dedication to the children, challenging curriculum, cohesive environment, economically sound, strong leadership, and supportive and active parent community.
