| | Making a charitable gift to support Chesapeake Academy represents an incredible way to transform the lives of our students. Your gift will allow us to continue providing our students with the resources to grow and embrace 21st century learning. Whether observing the children utilizing laptops in the classroom, listening to them use proper manners in the hallway, or appreciating how the small class sizes make it all possible, we all know the creativity, character, and confidence of the children is always on full display. All of these opportunities far exceed core academic requirements and serve to elevate Chesapeake Academy from adequate to inspirational. And none of it would be possible without the generous and vital philanthropic support of our community.
Why do I still need to make a gift if I am paying tuition? Educating your child is the most significant investment you will ever make. Chesapeake Academy achieves this goal by providing an exceptional educational experience. This requires significant financial support that starts with tuition but is highly augmented by the philanthropic support of our community. The gap between what it costs to educate a student and tuition is more than $2,000 per student. The school relies on philanthropic support to make up that difference. Why not just raise tuition? Doing so would make the cost of independent education prohibitive for some families. |
May I donate a gift of securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds)? Yes! Any securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds) that have appreciated in value may be donated to the school. Please consult with your tax advisor for questions or concerns before taking this action. If you decide to donate in this manner, please have your financial advisor contact Tara Adair at tadair@chesapeakeacademy.com or 410-647-9612. |
|
 | May I make a pledge? Yes! You may pledge now and schedule the payments to be made at your convenience. Most pledges are paid within the school's fiscal year (July 1, 2010 - June 30, 2011). |

May I include the school in my estate planning?Yes! Leaving a bequest or planned gift to Chesapeake Academy can transform the lives of our students. There is no more powerful way to create a legacy than by donating from your will or trust. The continuation of this tradition of remembrance ensures that Chesapeake Academy will be financially strong for many generations to come. A bequest is deductible for federal estate tax purposes, and there is no limit on the amount of the deduction. In addition, bequests generally are not subject to state inheritance or estate taxes.
You can make a specific bequest using sample language such as this in your will: "I give, devise and bequeath to Chesapeake Academy, 1185 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, Arnold, MD 21012, the sum of $__________ (or describe the specific property you intend to bequeath)." You can make a percentage bequest using sample language such as this: "I give, devise and bequeath to Chesapeake Academy, 1185 Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard, Arnold, MD 21012 ____% of my estate, both real and personal property of whatever kind and wheresoever situated." Residual and contingent bequests are other forms you may want to consider. If you are interested in this kind of donation, please contact Christopher Stewart, Advancement Director, at cstewart@chesapeakeacademy.com or 410-647-9612. |

Will my employer match my gift? Many employers will match your charitable contribution. Matching gifts may allow you to double or even triple your gift to the school. Check with your employer’s human resources department to find out if your employer has a program and how to participate. If your employer does not have a current matching gift program, you may ask them to consider starting one. Generally, employers have forms, web-based applications, or a phone system in place to process the matching gift. Once you complete the form you may include it with your check or mail it after the gift has been made. We will do the rest to ensure your gift is matched! For additional contact information, please contact Tara Adair at tadair@chesapeakeacademy.com or 410-647-9612. |
